Everyone's right so far...HDMI is expensive because it's NEW...Just like when FIBER OPTIC came out with DVD players 10 years ago...With the new HD-DVD and BLU-RAY, you're forced to purchase a NEW CABLE to make it work at 100%.
But the ONLY advantage of HDMI right now is that it will run "1080p" (twice the picture quality of hi-def) to your TV set...This is IF you have a TV that can play "1080p"...And also IF you've got an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player.

These are a lot cheaper and you will still get the HD picture with these cables. HDMI are the latest cable for HD, thats why they are expensive. I am using Componet Cables for my cable box and it looks awesome in HD. Because they are triple shielded with gold plating. I bought a new 10 ft. Monster HDMI to DVI cable on Ebay for $56.00, including what it cost to get it across the border when it was delivered, IN TWO DAYS !! That cable would have cost $179 at The Source. they're not REALLY expensive if you buy them online

The quality is worth the price. Because the average consumer thinks they need to pay that price. I work professionally with many different types cables. HDMI cables are digital cables and don't need to be anything special. It is like someone selling you a triple shielded printer cable for $75! Unless you are running a long length like over 15-ft, you don't need that much shielding. BTW, if you look on www.monoprice.com you can get HDMI-HDMI cables for $6.00.
