jbl is very good stuff, they are a harman company...(harman kardon, infinity, lexicon, bryston) but ive never been pleased with their speakers. have you listened to both set-ups yourself?? if not it would be difficult to say what sounds best to you. i personally would go with the jamos, much better drivers and crossovers. i dont think that you will get awesome bass response, (with either set) unless you have a separate power amp, in which case the jamos are definately better. Your amp, and the setup as a whole will have more impact that just the speakers alone. I'm a dealer of both of these lines, and personally I like the Jamo's better. Speaker placement and room acoustics will play a much bigger role than just speakers alone. Buy the ones YOU like best, for whatever reason and spend your time on setup. I would buy the ones that I got the best deal on.
p.s. not a fan of Onkoyo, Jamo is a great product, can't say anything bad about JBL. Hope this helps Oh, Jamo is easily the performance champion between the two. But this is subjective to one's taste. Take your favorite CDs and listen to them both and you decide.
If you're considering a home theater system, usually the best match is from the same brand/model series.
Onkyo is good for amplification and receivers, but there are better for speakers and optical players.
