Which give a better picture? Component cables or S-video cable?

From a video perspective, Component is better than s-video. HDMI and Component resolution quality is the same. The only advantage with HDMI is that you get sound on the same cable. But, as far as picture is concerned, Component or HDMI is the best, then S-video and then composite component outputs resolution of 480i 480p 720 1080i and 1080p s-video only outputs 480i xbox 360 and playstation3 use component cables to output video in high defenition

if your looking for true high defenition component is better S-video All cables are not equal. People may mention that S-video cable puts out more resolution than component cables. Yes the cable does HANDLE more resolution but then it depends what is the source the cable is coming from not what the cable is .

For example on a s-video VCR player you need the s-video cable to be able to play a picture from a VCR. Component cables will not fit on it. Then a regular VCR player with say, RCA outputs, need cables with RCA jacks on them. You could not plug a s-video cable into this regular VCR. The answer then is that a s-video VCR player would give a better picture than a regular VCR with RCA jacks. The machine makes the cable not the other way around. Now you can buy different qualites of cable to improve reception. Now a HDTV cable would only give a better picture because its SOURCE is a better medium of sending out signals. But the HDTV cable will only fit in its own port, and all 3 cables will not fit in each others port.
