Hi. Format wars don't sell players.Neither format is winning at the moment. HD DVD and Blu-ray are not looking to replace standard DVD. They are simply an option - and one that is being largely ignored by the public despite millions of dollars being spent on competitive marketing. Sony is launching a new marketing campaign called :" The Format War is Over".With this kind of ridiculous marketing - as if merely saying it makes it true.This is hardly one-sided as well,with HD DVD making large sweeping claims each time it can grasp a statistic that shows in its favour.It is quite possible that HD DVD and Blu-ray will co-exist for an indefinite period. So you can either wait in anticipation or buy a dual format player. My money is on the BlueRay stock.. there seems to be a little bit of "cheating" on the HD-DVD side and wouldn't mess with them with a ten foot pole...

because more people have DVD playing software/hardware opposed to Blue-ray no way blu ray's winning with the pricetag of $80 a disk.if it lowers the price then it may be considered as a chance.but currently hd dvd gives you all the definition one would ask for.and both are gonna have their own platforms so u can't be stuck with one format I am leaning towards blu-ray as it has more support from more reputable companies and vendors. It also has a higher capacity than HD DVD but HD DVD has faster read times but I'd go for quality. Plus it is backed by Sony. Although there are costs differences between the two and that is where HD DVD has the advantage. Here is more info on the debate:
