Which do you prefer Tubes or Solid State.....vinyl or cd?

vince For sound, I prefer tube. For severe duty such as a road band, SS.

For listening quality, It has to be CD, but I still love my vinyl.

I have a console stereo, and I am building a decent collection of vinyl. (mostly garage sale finds)

I no longer have any gear, as I am not a practicing road hound, but I still prefer Strats and Peavey gear. Actually, I prefer a combination of both tube

and solid state within the signal path. I love

the warmth and fullness of tubes, but also

love solid state's bass depth and dynamics.

I also prefer SACD overall for a nice mix of

the sound quality near to the analog sound

of vinyl, along with the dynamics, quietness,

and convenience of the CD.

In a perfect world (i.e. worry-free reliability), I

would choose the KR Audio Kronzilla monos.

These make effortless music better than any-

thing I've heard -tube or solid state. The OTL

designs are the closest to them on the tube

end, and Clayton Audio is the closest sound

to perfection on the solid state side.

That being said, I would choose the Clayton's

S2000 fully balanced pure class A 2-channel

solid state amp (which will drive any speaker

system with aplomb) with the Rogue Audio

Metis tube preamplifier.

The SACD/CD player would be the Sony SCD-
