Which A/V Receiver is better brand?

Denon, Yamaha, or Pioneer, or Sony?

Denon. Here's my inventory I currently have at home:

Sony Grand VVega SXRD 50" Model R50XBR1

Denon AVR-2807 Receiver

Definitive Technology Pro Cinema MK II (for front L,C,R)

Speaker Craft 6" CRS (ceiling installation for rear L,R,C)

I would also hold of on buying any receivers until they incorporate HDMI 1.3. Panasonic, Sony and pioneer are 3 good ones. I prefer Yamaha....haven't had a problem with 4 of them.

I have burned up a Sony, an Onkyo and a Pioneer.... Never had a Denon. With the exception of Sony the other three you mentioned all have good offering depending on price point and what you need. Pioneer's Elite line has a lot of fans and the same goes for Denon. Yamaha tends to be a bit more of a budget brand compared to Denon and Pioneer but they are also a great value and give you a lot of features at a very low price. I would say you can't go wrong with either of those options provided you pick one that has the features you need. The Denon and Yamaha are the better brands out of the four. I would go with the Denon! All are good, but don't get hung up on the name. Figure out your budget and compare specs to see what will give you the most for your money. Here are some links to help. Harman Kardon,Yamaha and Pioneer,in that order denon and harmon kardon and yamaha are known to be the leaders of main stream a/v receivers due to their more realistic ratings that are not bloated such as sony. denon and harmon kardon are also known to be a bit more on the "high current" amplifier end which is a good thing if you have decent speakers. i currently have a denon and i love it (2106) you can get a great price on it at www.secondact.biz. harmon kardon also gets lots of good reviews, dont base your purchase only on watts/channel, that is just a marketing scheme. go listen to them and then decide. they can pretty much power any speakers you have unless you ahve 4 ohm speakers then make your selection carefully. keep an eye out for pre-outs on the back of the receiver in case you decide to upgrade later on and get a power amplifier to support your larger speakers if those ever get purchased. Denon and Onyko are good buys

these are some of the decent (some are EXCELLENT) A/V recievers that are on the market today.

Denon isnt too bad, but the other three are lacking in the power reserve department, especially sony.
