Where is the best place to put a subwoofer?

I've heard underneath a coffee table, in a corner near the TV and in front of the TV. Where will I get the best results?

I have a carpeted, rectangular living room.

In general, the best place to put a subwoofer is in one of the front corners behind the speakers. This uses the walls as an infinite baffle and allows the low frequency waves to generate towards the listener. Two subs, one in each front corner is ideal. Just my preference.

_ Anywhere - out of sight works, like behind a chair. Subwoofers generate only very low frequencies which are not directional - you can't determine where they are coming from. Higher frequencies are directional - you can tell where the sound is coming from, so their placement does matter. the best place to put a sub-woofer is on the floor, because then the acoustics are better... or as close as possible to a neighbour's wall Actually, it doesn't really matter that much. Subwoofers are made to send vibrations throughout the entire room. The only real necessity is that the subwoofer is put on the floor. If it is put on top of anything, the vibrations will be absorbed, and it won't have the same effect. Hope this was helpful wherever it's fit to the design.
