Whats the best brand?
I building a home theatre and need to know which brand can best get me the following gear (note: that brand must be able to supply all of the following items, some of the items nobody makes, because there out of date, but that company must have made the at on time)....
all-in-one A/V system
center, left right, and surround sound speakers
subwoofer speakers
Laserdisc player
Beta VCR
Stereo with turntable, 8-track, and radio
All needed A/V cords
Surge suppressor/Pwr conditioner
Video display (minimum of 27in screen)

A single "brand" to build an entire AV system would be stupid, I hope that's not what you are trying to do. I strongly suggest changing your mind or you'll be disappointed.
If this is a trivia question, I'd go with Sony being the only company to make all of those items at one time or another though I've never seen a Sony surge suppressor/pwr conditioner.
So a brand suggestion for each Item with reasonable cost to quality ratio.
Speakers: Boston Acoustic new
Laserdisc: Pioneer new (yes they still maket them)
