What's your experience of Panasonic DVD recorders?
How does the built-in Freeview digital tuner compare to stand-alone digital tuners? When making a recording to DVD is there a finalizing period when 'stop' is pressed, and if so how long is it?
I'm in a quandry whether to go for one with a digital tuner and/or hard drive or not. Hard drive models are much more expensive, is it really worth it for every-day recordings?

Generally anything by Panasonic is excellent. I have a Pana DVD recorder with RAM capability, where you can live pause and rewind while you are recording, similar to Sky+ . There is a pause when you stop recording, but that does not show on the playback, it is purely a memory function. The tuner inside a Pana PVR is excellent and easily stands up in a test against other freeview boxes. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is better in many ways, and has a built in gain for reception. Hard drives are the way forward and I would give a definite "yes" to anyone asking if it is a good idea or not. Hope that helps Go to there website, they are very user friendly.
Hope it helps I have one with a digital tuner and no hard drive...works fairly well; I primarily use it for dubbing VHS home videos to DVD, and only taped off-air programming a few times. I've had a couple of coasters happen if I paused too much while recording. Since DVD recording is never a 100% guaranteed operation (not necessarily always the recorder's fault--the media may be defective, the stars may be misaligned, etc), I think that if you're going to record stuff every day a hard drive may be worth it.
Anyway, the "finalizing," as you may know, happens when you want to convert your recording to a DVD that'll play on conventional DVD players. It takes about 4 minutes on mine, though I've noticed it might take longer if you've only recorded a few minutes of video. I've got one and I hate it. Its not as user friendly as any of the tape players i have a panasonic dmr-eh50 dvd/hdd recorder-and its the best 350 pounds i ever spent (and i'm notoriously hard to impress).
