HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are two incompatible formats for high capacity data storage on a disc--used most commonly to deliver high definition movies.
Right now, both formats are capable of delivering the same quality in both audio and video. The difference in quality right now has more to do with hardware and codecs used than the format itself. Blu-ray has the support of Sony and a large number of movie studios, while HD-DVD has toshiba, microsoft, and a smaller number of movie studios supporting it. HD-DVD players are cheaper right now than their blu-ray counterparts, and there are a few players coming out that will play either format. Amount of data that can be held on the disc. Blu-ray can hold more as of right now. HD-DVD will win the race in the end tho This all gets very technical. Basically as far as movies are concerned, both formats deliver full high-definition video and quality surround-sound audio. It is unclear which discs will become the ones dominantely used by everyone. My personal opinion is that there will be players released in the near future that play both formats. This will mean that it won't matter which format a movie is encoded in, you will just pop it in your universal player. just to add to what they have said
blue-ray is featured in the ps3 and in stand alone dvd players. It can hold up to 25gigs single layer and 50gigs on double layer
hd-dvd is featured as an upgrade for an axox 360 and in stand alone dvd players. It can hold up to 15gigs single layer and 30gigs double layer.
