What's the best 5.1 surround sound system?

Now the best system will simply depend on budget but i do feel for the money you do get the best available. Another option is Klipsch but you would have to listen to them first as they tend to not agree with everyones tastes. I happen to love them Klipsch Reference series is what I own. I spent about 3500 on speakers and about 1500 on a yamaha receiver. I have 4 towers around me a center channel that is simply amazing and a 12 inch sub that moves pictures on the third floor. My room 15 x 30 and in the basement.

PS: what does an arm and a leg cost these days.

JK Both Klipsch and Deftech make good economical systems you can find them on their site. I don't recommend Home theateres in a box because they usually sacrifice too much and leave you wanting more.

Wireless speakers never sound good...But running wires all over your living room is a chore...You could spent lots of money on seperate components and piece it all together at home...But I recommend a HOME THEATER IN A BOX for your set-up...But you have a really nice TV so you need a decent sound system...Try this one a "CircuitCity.com"...Click the link below (it's only $500).

Well good luck with 200 dollars but if you can spend a little more like 450 to 500 go to circuit city and get the onkyo home theater in a box its a 7.1 schannel system and for the price its amazing! I have it and it is the best you may even be able to find an older model brand new online for like 300 or so its 1000 wats and im pretty sure the older ones are two but like i said for the price it is the best sounding system out there Sorry to say that your $200.00 budget is just low for a NEW 5.1 system. Your best option is for used units and there are lots of good ones out there. BTW, for the floor area you have forget Bose. They sound stiff. I have a Sony 5.1 surround sound system where I bought it at Best Buy with 600 Watts of total system power and a 8" subwoofer. It only cost me around $210. But that was a year ago so they may or may not have it there. You could probably go online and get a new one for cheap but I like to actually see what I'm buying when I'm paying over $200 for something if you don't want to go online I think Best Buy would be your best bet. The best brands I've worked with are Bose and Onkyo. Sony is not QUITE as good, but certainly a higher value. You get almost as much sound quality for a LOT less money. I personally have a Sony system and my only gripe is that it's not as good at simulating surround from non surround media. (My old Onkyo could make MONO video sound theater quality)
