Pioneer Elite model is a good buy.

If the $1,000 price range is out of your budget, then

consider the highest model Onkyo (or Yamaha is

good too) you can afford. Sure, others may say

Harman/Kardon, Denon, or Marantz, while they're

also good, I don't see as much bang for the buck

with them as what I have recommended to you.

If you want something different, and music is as

important to you as home theater, the entry-level

Arcam (and perhaps NAD) receiver is a very good

choice for an all-around performer.

These brands are going to perform far and away better than the mass market schlock that can be purchased from brands such as Sony, H/K, Denon, Onkyo, and Pioneer. Music reproduction is a priority here, not quick sales with inflated power ratings. One side by side comparison with a Pioneer reciever to a B&K was as obvious as night is to day.
