What type of speaker wire should I purchase for my surround sound system?

I purchased the Klipsch Quintet III system with the Klipsch 10" Subwoofer. It will all be pushed by my Harmon Kardon AV140 receiver.

monster cable makes nice wire but expensive as heck. go to your local radioshack and get their platinum series. both types of wire are made at the same factory with the same machines, you catch my drift. at least get a 14 guage wire 17 to 22 gauge will do just fine! Almost any wire will do for speaker wire. I just use lamp cord type because it has 2 wires together. Monster cable will do your system justice. Don't waste your money on Monster Cable; it's a rip off. Any 12-14 guage oxygen free copper wire will do just fine. If Monster spent as much money on researching and making innovative cabling as they do suing every business with the word "monster" in it's title, they might have a product worth spending a little more money on. Unfortunately, they don't.

Even if rear speakers didn't get full range (which they do in 5.1DD/DTS) guage is still important because your rear speakers will have longer runs. I have found th cables from blue jeans cables (bluejeanscables.com) to be reasonably priced and of great quality. I would not buy into the much hyped super expensive cables as the difference if any for a system like yours will not be worth the price. buying speaker wire is like buying car oil. there are a lot of choices from .99-10.00 a bottle. if you bought a lotus, you would use the 10.00 bottle, right? listen, if you dont know,it wont matter,use cheap rca or philips cable.but for your sub, on the back there should be two outputs(usually red,white,or yellow), use the two close together outputs,instead of just one.get a monster sub cable with a split end for the input to the sub,itll cost aroung 30-40 us, but itll do your sub justice. You can get very good and reasonably priced speaker wire at Radio Shack, Home Depot, or online. 14 awg is good, bigger for longer runs, smaller is ok for shorter runs. 16 gauge should be sufficient.....larger for longer runs. Get the home depot stuff and it works fine. Since surround signals aren't receiving the full frequency bandwidth, gause isn't as important as in front speakers. I'd use a solid copper 18 gauge myself.
