What kind of receiver can I use with American Pro 4ohm subwoofers..?

I bought 2 15" American Pro Subwoofers a while back for my car. I have them hooked up to a little RCA compact Disc Stereo System that is 60 watts. They do well, but I want something more. I have watched my friends hook them up to there Acctual Stereo Recievers and they have blown them.

How Can I Avoid this... I think I need a 4ohm Receiver??? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you will need an amplifier or receiver that will be able to handle a 4 Ohms nominal impedance. Look around and read the specs. It's not the most common (6 to 8 Ohms is), but there are quite a few out there at different price levels. I would recommend finding one that is a dedicated subwoofer amplifier. One really good one that would fit the bill extremely well would be the Dayton Audio HPSA1000. It pumps out 1024 watts into 4 Ohms, which is more than enough power for most subwoofers.

If you're looking for a good budget amp that will do the trick, I suggest the Behringer A500 Reference. It puts out 250 wpc into 4 Ohms and you get seperate volume controls for each channel.

_ Actually the Behringer A-500 isn't the best choice for running 4 ohm subs. You'll want to spend the extra few bucks and go to the EP-1500 and do a quiet fan upgrade (24 volt fan). The A-500 works better with a higher load. I have 5 of them in display as our cheap amp stack in my demo theater and they work great...but not as sub amps and not into low impedance loads. The EP-1500 and bigger brother EP-2500 are better suited for a nominal 4 ohm load and will run a 2 ohm load. There is likely an impedance dip well below 4 ohms on those subs near the resonance point which is why it toasted the other receivers...chances are the RCA system has impedance matching outputs which limits the power, but allows it to run without blowing up.
