Amp= Power for the speakers welll speaker make it and amplifer makes it it sends the power and signal to the speaker!!!!!!!!! an amplifier takes the sound from your cd , radio or cassette desk and amplifies (makes it stronger )
a speaker allows you to hear that amplified sound . an amplifier increase the speaker volume making it a whole lot louder than it will be. but the problem is if your amplifier has a higher wattage than your speaker, then your speaker might blow if the watts the amplifier is sending it is higher than what it can take. The amplifier is the part of your stereo with the volume/EQ/whatever other controls on it. Your DVD/CD/VCR etc. hook up to it, and so do your speakers. It boosts the sound between components and speakers. Also does some decoding for Dolby 5.1, 7.1 or THC etc. Most modern amplifiers will "clip" or cut out if there is distortion feedback at the speakers. Still best to balance the amp's output with the speakers' power handling capabilities. If you're shopping for a system and not sure, buy something that's "bundled".
