What is the cheapest receiver/home theater system that has THX?

I want a receiver with at least 100 watts per channel, not total wattage, but 100 watt per channel and at least 60 to center channel and 30 to rear channels and has THX decoding for under 400$

Look to Yamaha or Pioneer -and voila!

THX is a set of specifications for the room in which A/V is reproduced (including theatres) and which equipment such as an A/V receiver must meet. It also includes specification for speaker placement and screen size/distance.

I have a Pioneer Elite receiver (THX Ultra 2) with "THX modes" capability. As I understand it they impose further processing on standard decoding (e,g, ProLogic, Neo6 or Dolby Digital) to reproduce a THX speaker setup. For example 5.1 Dolby becomes 6.1 or 7.1 sound when THX is appropriately enabled. I assume this is what you are looking for in an A/V receiver.

There are various levels of THX certification (e.g. Select, Select 2, Ultra and Ultra 2) for equipment, based primarily on the size of the room in which they will be used. See link 1.

Manufacturers of THX Select 2 certified receivers in close to your price range include Pioneere (e.g VSX-1016TXV, Link #3) and Onkyo (e.g. TX-SR703B). The pioneer (Link #3) may be available for under $400 (list $500), but he Onkyo is a bit above the $400 point. That said, the THX implementation at the Select 2 level may be somewhat basic. You may wish to verify it is what you want.
