What is the best way to hook up a Home theatre system? HELP?
What connections and cables should be used to get the best possible features and quality...I have the latest equipment and all the cables. There are a variety of ways to hook it all up. The sources I look at including SONY and each of the component manufacturers all have a different way to hook it up. What should hook to what where and with what cable is my quetsion ......
The components include:
1. TV (SONY SXRD) with 2 HDMI and a lot of other audio & video connects
2. HD Cable Box (Scientific Atlanta 8300HD)w/HDMI, component, composite & didgital optical
3. DVD Recorder (LG 19F19)w/HDMI and loads of other connections
4. VCR (Sony 679)with the standard Composite in and Out and Coax
5. A-V Reciever (Onkyo 604)w/ 2 HDMI, composite, component , 3 optical etc.
Thanks to anyone who would care to advise me.....as to how to hook all this stuff up. I have had it! I have all the cables so let you imagination run wild....DJ

The receiver doesn't do HDMI upconversion, so
Assuming you want to be able to record on both the VCR and DVD
Cable box component out to component receiver in
Cable box composite out to VCR in
Cable box fiber-optic out to receiver in
Cable box stereo out to VCR in
DVD HDMI out to HDMI receiver in
Receiver HDMI out to TV HDMI in
Receiver component out to TV in
VCR composite out to DVDR in
VCR stereo out to DVDR in
So in total you'll need
Component video x 2
Composite video x 2
Fiber-optic x 1
HDMI x 2
Stereo audio x 2 HDMI Will give you the best picture and audio.... run your sources in the a/v reciever, then hook the hdmi output of the a/v reciever to the tv
as for the vcr, run composite into the reciever, and out from there
