What is the best way to convert my vinyl collection to digital?
I have $200 to spend and want to get the highest quality mp3s. I imagine I'd need a USB preamp, but what is the best to get for a pc? And what works with my budget?
I'm a digital DJ so I'd prefer a direct-drive turntable to belt-driven.

There are probably several less expensive options, but for a simple option I know there is a unit that has a turntable on top and a CD slot underneath, and will record your vinyl (and I think cassette tapes too) onto CDs. Unfortunately I don't remember whether I saw it in a "Sharper Image" catalog or in one of those "on-board flight sales" magazines during a flight. I think the price was around $200, but maybe more. Here's what I do. I have an audio CD burner (the kind that uses "music" CD-Rs) connected to my stereo. I record the LP onto the CD as two long tracks (one per side.)
I then "rip" the CD onto the computer and I use Cakewalk Pyro to reduce the clicks, and create tracks. It works great!
You can also use an audio board (I have a SoundBlaster Audigy) to capture the LP directly to the computer. I connect the stereo output from the amplifier (that has my turntable connected it) to the audio input (Blue) on the sound card of the PC. You record in realtime as .wav files. These can be manipulated with an editor like Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/...
You have to add the "Lame" encoder to finish the work off as .mp3's.
