What is the best projector for a home entertainment theater?

I was looking for one under $800. The best for my money.

Personally, I'd go onto one of the bigger Audio/Video forums like the AVS forum and see if you can pick up a very lightly used Panasonic PT-AE900U. This was one of the top notch projectors from last season (i.e. 6 months ago) and the best selling entry level high def projector on the market. It is full 720P high def capable, has an HDMI input and is a VERY well known factor with tons and tons of guys out there still using them with lots of advice on proper setup. It has a gigantic zoom and offset range. The newest version (the PT-AX100U) is the same thing with more light output. Lot of guys switching over to 1080P projectors so now is a good time to pounce on a low hour 720P unit. I've seen them with under 200 hours on the bulb going for under $1K. Buying a new one below $1K, the problem is that a lot of them still aren't high definition (they are native 480P). I wouldn't invest in a projector these days unless it was at least capable of native High definition (720P) and had at least one HDMI input on it. A year from now, it will be a boat anchor. Check the Optoma line of projectors. Good reviews from the pros and good prices. Check out www.pcworld.com for their free reviews and side-by-side comparison. Amazon.com can be a useful comparison tool, as well. Tip: Always watch for suspicious reviews when comparing. The manufacturers aren't always the best source for rating their own products.
