_ Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). (My guess is that Microsoft supports HD because Blu-Ray enjoys Apples support and runs on Java software by Sun Microsystems) Blu-Ray has greater capabilities and capacity but is slower to market and more expensive. Everything is up in the air so I would wait unless you are a movie fanatic and have a TV that can take advantage of the greater picture quality. (an HDTV with an HDMI input-preferably 1080P). Even then not all movies will be available as some studios are only releasing on HD DVD I would like to back up Miguel in that Blu Ray is a disc format, not a movie format. You can store whatever you want to on Blu Ray discs if you have a burner.
