What else do I need?

I want this product, but I don't know if I need anything else to go with it. I have an old, old tv with an old dvd player (it's like one of the first dvd players ever, lol) my old tv has a built in vcr also.

so, should I just go with a full package that includes a reciever +amp+speakers or can I just get the speakers?

This will be a step up from listening to the sound from the TV. This system will only produce 5.1 surround, not Dolby Digital or DTS. This system comes with everything you will need to get it rolling-even the speaker wire. You do not need a separate receiver with this system; it is completely self contained. This system will make a good PC speaker set-up also. When you decide to step up to a Dolby Digital system, this one can be relocated to PC duty. It really depends on what you want. If you just want a new speaker system because you are unsatisfied with your current sound, then go for it. It seems like a good deal (don't quote me). If you want more functionality, however, then you might want to look a little further, as these are just speakers. You will need a surround sound receiver for this system. If you want to get a complete system, look at HTIB systems from Yamaha, Panasonic, and JVC.
