What does an IR system do?

An IR system lets you point your remote control in one direction, yet allows you to control equipment in front of you, behind you, in a closet, or another room.
It has a reciever in front of you, an amp to beef up the IR Signal, then multiple transmitters coming off the amp that you can attach or lay near your hidden equipment, or equipment not located directly in front of your TV viewing area....... Ir = infra red. it is a spectrum of light that you can't see but is effective for sending signals throught open air. They only work with "line of sight". They DO NOT work from other rooms, closets etc.
The competition to Ir is RF (Radio frequency) this type will work throught walls and other objects, Ie Radio controled cars! Hope this helps. i dont know
