WHAT IS THE DIFFERNCE BETWEEN HD dvds and blu-ray LISA?

They are competing formats much like the DVD+R and DVD-R and the old VHS and Beta formats in video tapes.

Sony has been famous for disagreeing with everyone else in the world and developing their own format then badgering others to use it.

There are already players out there that will play either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. LG makes a real good one.

Expect to pay through the nose for blanks or pre-recorded movies for either format.

Norm Like VHS and Beta, or Xbox and Playstation. Blu-Ray is the highest quality.

Hd-Dvd is Better than a regular dvd but doesn't compare to blu-ray.

Expect to pay more for blu-ray, but its worth the extra cash! Realistically, there is none. Both are capable of storing a full length film at 1080p along with surround sound information for 7.1.

You'll have to really dig into the specs of both formats to really find any differences, and even then, unless you have a very high end setup, you won't really notice any differences.

If you don't even have a HDTV, don't even bother with them. You won't see any improvement on your standard TV set. Personally, I wouldn't recommend either of them even if you DO have a HDTV. You don't want to get stuck with the "wrong" format if one should win out over the other. Give it at least another year. Different manufactures same out put.
