There's a delay in my surround sound?

I had a basic tube tv with a 1000 watt pioneer surround sound system, sounded great. I upgraded to a flat screen lcd hdtv, and now there is a delay in the sound. The sound from my tv is slightly behind the sound coming out of my surround sound system. What is the problem and how should i fix it?

If you have a surround sound system, then you should always disable your TV speakers. When using TV speakers and surround sound system, you always risk the audio going out of sync.

If your surround sound system is not insync with the video, then you need to see if your surround sound system has an audio delay feature. On some systems, you can adjust the delays to sync your audio with the video.

Your audio and video should not be out of sync, if you are using your AV receiver as the audio and video switcher meaning that all your video sources go through the AV receiver. If you have an audio cable go to your AV receiver and a video cable go to your TV from a DVD player, there is a good chance the audio and video will be out of sync. If I understand your set up you probably have a 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 pioneer surround sound receiver. First I would not use the HDTV speakers as a center channel. The clarity usually not as good as a decent surround sound system. If you are using it as a center channel then you may have not turned off the surround mode on your HDTV. The receiver also controls delays. Possibly you may have two delays working together causing "more delay" If this scenario is correct then get a center channel speaker. Do not hook up your HDTV to the receiver. Program the Pioneer for all 5,6 or 7 speakers (.1 being the subwoofer) for correct millisecond delay to the rear speaker.
