The Digital Coax and Optical Audio from HDTV to A/V rcvr produces pulsed noise..Any clue what causes
Just got a new HDTV with Cox Cable HD svc and am trying to connect TV or Cable box to my A/V receiver using the Digital Coaxial and Optical Audio connections. When switching A/V to these inputs all I get is a very fast pulsing noise. Any clue what's causing this? The A/V rcvr works ok using the standard audio inputs.

as long as you are plugging things in the right spot (ie: digital coax into digital coax input ) you shouldbe ok.
You only need one connection , either digital coax or digital optical - not both to get connected.
Digital Cable connections are usually orange in color and shoudl only be connected to digital coax inputs (also orange)
plugging digital coax into audio in connector could cause that pulsing sound.
if you list the make/modelof your cable box, av receiver this might help answer your quesiton Both the TV and the set-top box, by default output audio from the RCA outputs or the speakers.
You need to dig into their menus and make sure you specify digital output.
If you output in Dolby Digital, make sure your receiver supports it, otherwise switch to PCM
