Testing the microwave hv diode.?
I am testing the hv diode for a microwave but i am not getting any reading from any of the ohms/resistance scale.i am using a digital multimeter with a max. range of 2000k. can any one help?
P.S. there is no reading on either the forward or reverse bias.

Make sure to take it out of the circuit to test it properly. If you leave it in you wont get proper bias for the meter to work right. Wow, either that is some diode or else it is open.
I haven't taken apart a microwave before to check them, but it sounds like you have a blown diode..
Yes, it happens..at work, we receive a brand new part, and it turns out faulted. I wouldn't be surprised if that diode is not open or not conducting.... If you can't get a reading either way it has gone open circuit, though the interesting question would be why has it happened. Check out everything for possible faults before replacing it. It is a high voltage diode and you can't test it with a regular multimeter.Inside a HV diode there are several low voltage diode and each has 0.7 to 1.2 V forward bias.In a microwave diode there are about 30.
So 30*0.7=21V ,your multimeter has to have a 30V battery. Use a 30V power supply put a 5K resistance in series with the diode and put the multimeter also in series but to 200mA range.(power supply must be DC).
