Surround Sound Help??
Ok, here's the deal. I have recently bought a 40-inch HD ready LCD Samsung TV (the one they advertise on UK TV). It has an HDMI connection so when the PS3 comes out, it will play it on high def. 1080i to be exact, or 720p. A free dvd recorder came with the TV, and I have component wires (the best quality possible for now) connected between it and the TV, so movies are played in great clarity and detail. Obviously the next step up is HD.
Now I need a surround sound for the room. I would mainly use it for movies and ps3 games. But here are the 2 problems:
1. The PS3 will play DVDs too as well as blu-ray (the next level up), but only so many blu-ray movies will be out anytime soon, so I will be watching DVDs for a while yet. But ehat quality will PS3 play DVDs? I don't want my 80quid wires to be out of date if PS3 will play DVDs in equal/better quality.
2. Which 5.1 surround sound system for say about 250 - 300 quid can I get that will give me great quality and sound volume?
Answer:
THe PS3 should play DVDs as is, meaning in their native resolution. You can buy DVD players for as little as $100 (US) that will upscale the resolution to HD. Of course it won't look as good as the HD stuff but should look slightly better on your HD tv than just watching with the native resolution of the DVD. PS3 should have HDMI 1.3 connectors and so should allow for uncompressed digital connections bewteen the PS3 and your TV. Your best bet would be to buy a reciever that has HDMI connections. Some receivers also have HD upscaling and will upscale video from any source to look better on your HD screen.
