I bought a Denon home-theatre-in-a-box system last December and absolutely loved it. It was one of the few 7.1 systems the store had which was great for the Xbox I had recently purchased at the time. Denon now has what I believe is called the Mirage system which is supposed to compete with the Bose 1-2-3 system although I haven't heard it myself. I'm not sure if this is in your price range, but these are very good at an affordable price
