Should I still buy LCD TV if I don't have cable service?

Sure, but just get an amplified (HDTV if your TV is capable of HD

signals) antenna to take full advantage of the picture quality.

Make sure your TV is digital ready or otherwise you will need to

get a digital receiver (if you don't have cable by then) when they

do the mandatory analog to digital switch in 2009.

_ what would be the point an antenna would not bring up a good picture and even if u had basic cable those would be analog channels and would have a horrible picture no matter what...think bout the tv u have now..the picture looks horrible on basic cable no matter where u are or what tv you have..if you buy digital cable channels too then you are n business and those will look great If you do, make sure it's HDTV compatable. Here in Louisville, they've started terrestrial broadcast of HD signals - you don't need cable or satellite.

BTW - don't decide on the TECHNOLOGY (LCD, plasma, etc) until you've seen them side by side. I work for a Video Telecommunications company, and most of the LCDs we review look like crap for motion (i.e. movies, sports, etc). The biggest advantage they have over plasma is they last longer and don't "burn in" static images. Although most salesmen will tell you they've "solved" the plasma burn-in issue, they've only reduced it, not eliminated it. If you have the money sure ..Cable and satellite subscriber are not the only ones that offer HD. Some locale TV station air TV shows in HD now. The conventional Tube TV is the ting of the past ..go for it and enjoy! The reason for getting an LCD TV is to enjoy clearer pictures.

If your not into the cable, you can still enjoy the local channels and a little more, by getting Basic cable. It is digital!

It cost very little and would be the best decision!
