PS2 vs Upscaling DVD player.. what should we do?

We have a 50" plasma Samsung HDTV that we just bought.
Tonight we bought the Samsung upconverting DVD player (DVD-HD860).
I hooked it up via HDMI cable. I compared between 1080i, 480p and also 480i from our PS2 hooked up via S-video. I honestly couldn't see a difference. Old movies looked bad in every format, good movies looked good in every format.
I've also heard that the TV automatically upconverts anyway.
What should we do? Keep the upconverting DVD player? Or, return it and buy a component cable for the PS2 so it can have 480p progressive scan?
Answer:
I'd take it back and save the money. I would keep the ps2 of course. "madden 2007" and it plays dvd's great. Go get your money back.
