How do i hook up a surround sound speaker system?

I agree that you need to be more specific with the equipment brand/models to get the proper hook up. There are a 1001 ways to skin a cat ( poor cat or in this case you). check your instruction handbook, it should have procedures for installation purposes. Hi. I'm assuming you will be hooking up a basic 5 channel system- left , center , and right front speakers and two rear ( surround ) speakers and most importantly that your receiver is compatible for what you are trying to do. You'll want to first set your speakers in their proper locations , rear surrounds either on stands or on the wall directly to the sides or slightly behind you at ear level or slightly above. Next is the !@#% part of running 5 individual wires to each speaker. The back of your receiver will be marked left front, right front, center and so on. Once the wires have been ran, I suggest you run to Radio Shack and invest in an inexpensive SPL meter-roughly about $40-45 so you can calibrate your system properly : meaning you will want all your speakers to output the same level of power. You don't want your center speaker to be louder than the fronts and you don't want the rears to overpower the rest of the system- that sucks when listening to music or movies. I like to raise my rear speakers about a half to one decibel louder than the others, it adds a little more ooomph in action movies. Oh, I almost forgot- your receiver should have a pink noise generator and if not invest in an disc that allows you to calibrate your speakers. A lot of dvd's out there have a THX optomizer that will let you use that certain part of the disc for calibration purposes. If you have or plan to get a powered sub, then calibrating that can be a little more difficult- that's another paragraph by itself !!
