How do i connect a old tv to a new receiver?

well i have a tv (apex) it has white and yellow my type of receiver is a yamaha HTR-5920 i hood up the yellow with yellow and white with white but the sound come out from one speaker whyyyyyy? my receiver has red yellow and white what should i do buy a new tv that has red white and yellow? plz any1 help me out im desperate

you can split the white TV out to red/white reciever input.

or take the out put red/white from your satellite box.. then input to receiver

MIKE i believe the tv only has the output for one speaker, not two. most tvs now have 2 audio, left and right. so if you are desperate i would say to buy a new tv with the red yellow and white cables. or try the thick black coax cable The yellow cable is a video cable. The white cable is the only audio you have since this is a mono TV. You need to get a single female to dual male adapter to feed the audio in to both channels on the receiver. You will not get stereo or surround sound. If you have a stereo VCR you can use it as the tuner and connect its audio to the receiver. This will give you surround sound on stereo broadcasts. If you have a cable box or satellite receiver you can do this as well.
