Can i hook up my hd receiver with someone elses satellite?

My sister lives in front of me, and I have an HD receiver, can I use hers to connect at my house?

The satellite providers are very specific about this kind of distribution. You need your own dish to make it happen.

Otherwise if you try it and they find out about it you would be guilty of a FELONY in the US. Laws and issues outside of the US I am not qualified to offer advice about but I would wager that it is similar if not the same elsewhere. that is straight up called bootleg use her what?

MIKE Yes you can, but if she is a DTV subscriber then it would be considered signal theft on your part.

If whe is NOT a subscriber and you just want to use her dish because it's easier then moving it then it shouldn't be a problem. As long as there is only one location actually using the service it should be ok.

weeder Since you get the service activation on the box it self there is nothing wrong with sharing a sat dish that just receives the signal, but with out activating your box it wont work. Think about it apartment complexes and High rise buildings to it all the time so there aren't sat dishes all over the place.

The problem would then be you need to run 2 coax wires to her sat dish or diplexer. yes you can do it because, unlike computers or other electronic equipment the dish itself is dumb-there is no way for them to tell how you are getting the signal. Also if you have a dish network reciever and she has a directv dish, or vice versa, it will not work.

if you have a regular HD directv reciever you will need one coax line into the house, if you havew the HD DVR reciever, then you will need two lines.
