Can anyone recommend a good upconverting DVD player?

I am planning to buy an LCD TV that supports 1080p. Should I buy a upconverting DVD player with 1080i or 1080p support since I heard 1080i is good enough.

Sure, at least until the industry sorts out all of the

formats. That's what I did. I own the Oppo DV-981HD.

Otherwise, you could consider the LG player that plays

both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Discs if the high price is

not out of the question. A 1080i resolution is plenty

good enough for HDTV sizes of 37" or smaller. To be honest you should just get a good progressive scan DVD player. The difference is soooo minor that it is very hard to tell difference not enough to justify the extra money spent on it. Save the money for an HDDVD or Blu Ray trust me you'll be more satisfied. You can upconvert 480p all u want but it will never be high def. That's almost as absurd as saying i can turn a 1 dollar bill into a 100 dollar bill. I bought both the new sony blu-ray and panasonic blu-ray...both worked fine for the room or home theater set-up (I have a home theater front projector in one room and an LCD in another.

The blu-ray does provide much crisper resolutions even on upconverted dvd's that are the improvements are very striking on larger screens (probably bigger than 60 inch). try the following dvd:

Pioneer DV-400 this baby upconverts to 1080P latest greatest, well maybe not. It retails for around $150 Canadian dollars.
