Can anyone help me fix my TV?

Well, my tv is a 27" RCA regular tube tv. The screen recently started cutting in and out. Turning it on and off seems to help get it back on, but then it randomly just cuts out. It is never fuzzy or anything, just on or off. The sound still works the whole time though, so it is just the screen going black. I figured this is probably a common problem and that someone can tell me what to replace. So, if you know whats wrong with it please tell me the name of the part that is most likely going bad and also what it looks like if at all possible. Thanks

Normally this does unfortunately mean the tube is nearly gone. Other less common possible causes may be a bad electrical connection with the video board or even possibly a thermal cutout that shuts off due to temperature (try cleaning all the air vents and make sure of easy air flow around unit). There are many possible causes (almost always a bad tube, though), so it is impossible to tell you a single part to replace or give a picture. Even replacing the video card or tube would cost more (unless bought at a garage sale) than a new one would cost. Hi justenrider,

Tube TV's have pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur. You probably have a tube going bad but I have to clue where or how you could get a tube tested today. Then buying a replacement would be next to impossible.

Your best bet is to check out yard sales. Last week I bought a 27" TV that is working fine for $30. The people had bought a new Plasma & wanted to get rid of their old TV.
