Can an infrared eye in a reciever go out.?

My remotes dont work with my reciever but the front panel still works. It worked fine yesterday/

The fact is: YES, the IR receiver CAN go out. Its happened to me a few times over the years.

Like Steve C says, make sure its not the remote itself by putting in a full set of fresh batteries.(don't be lazy or cheap by doing half new, half old!)

The only problem is, then its still hard to tell whether its the remote's IR emitter, or the component's IR receiver. The only ways to check that is to try to command a similar branded machine with your remote, OR use an aftermarket programmable remote ($10 bucks at your favorite mega-corp store) to control your receiver.

That should define the situation.

Alternate method: if you have a cable TV or Satellite receiver, it may be possible to program one of those remotes to, for example, adjust the volume on your receiver. This may save you from the $10 trip to the mega-corp store!

Good luck and let me know how it goes! You've got me curious now. It can go out, but the problem is more likely the remote. Fresh batteries and no goo on the led on the front lens? It's possible, but not the most likely cause. Locate the IR, it's usually behind the display (you can also look at the owner's manual, they usually state where it's located). Clean the display around the IR and see if that fixes the problem.

Good luck! If you have a digital camcorder hook up a TV to the video out and watch thru the view finder at your remote when you operate it. If you don't see flashing then get a replacement remote if the batt thing doesn't work.
