Bought a DVD from "Across the Pond" online but..?

My machine won't play it. Do any of you more sophisticated and technically enhanced persons know why or if I can fix it. Or did I just throw money down the drain.

Depending on where you bought it, you are probably running into the arificial regionalization limits put into DVD players. The majority of commercial DVD's are tagged to only play in certain regions and your player must correspond to the region tag otherwise it will not play it back.

So that's the bad news. The good news is that you can sometimes de-regionalize your DVD player through the use of some codes punched into the remote control unit.

Thanks and good luck. u thew money down the drain. hope u didn't pay much for it. Sorry to say, but you probably threw money down the drain. When I traveled abroad they made it clear not to buy videos, video games or anything of the sort. Unless you can get your hands on a machine from "across the pond" you will probably not be able to use the DVD. the only suggestion I have is try it in your computer. I had a friend who's brother sent her a DVD player & DVD's from China & I was able to view them on my laptop. You'd need to get a dvd player that is equipped to play videos from "across the pond", whichever direction that might be. Some players will work with both formats.
