Blu ray player questions...?

1) I have a very big library of standard dvd's are they playable in this player or will i have to drop my dvd's and start a new collection?

2)Is it worth it to get a blu ray player now or should i wait a little bit longer?

3)I have a 40 inch sony bravia that is 720p will i still see an awesome picture without 1080 p

First your standard dvds will play just fine on the blu-ray player. So you dont need to get new ones unless you want to see a better quality. I would say hold off on getting a player alittle bit longer, most players still have a few quirks about them and need updates wait for a few more months. You will see a good picture but no where near as good as a 1080p, so without the tv the player isnt really doing as much for you. 1) All DVDs will play in Blu Ray players. All Blu Ray players will also upconvert DVDs to make them look a bit better. That being said, no upconverted DVD will look as good as a true High Def transfer. So while you don't have to rebuy anything, you may want to rebuy for favorites for the improved quality. Or you may choose just t obuy Blu Ray for new stuff going forward.

2) It's a pretty nice upgrade and I feel it was worth it for me. Cost is still high for most Blu Ray players, and as a word of caution, almost all existing Blu Ray players may not be Blu Ray 1.1 compliant. Which means they may not have fully functioning Blu Ray Java features. This won't affect movie playback, but may prevent certain extra features from being played. The only assured future proof player available is the PS3 (arguably the best player out there). If you don't by that, I'd be inclined to wait.

3) Yes, although not as good as it could be. DVDs have 480 lines of resolution. Blu Rays go up to 1080. You're in the middle, getting some benefits, but not all of them. If your TV can do 1080i, you'll get just about everything there is. Some TVs do 720p and 1080i (but not 1080p).
