what's the difference between dvd-r and dvd+r?

Not sure what the exact diffence is, but if you need a dvd+- burner to burn onto your choice. DVD player will accept one or the other. You have to experiment to get the right one sometimes. Both my players will play - dvd's. A friend had an older dvd burner and that only burns +'s, but his dvd player wouldn't play them unless they were the expensive +'s. Goofy. Check the link! =) They are pretty much the same thing just owned by different companies, I think any DVD can play both but for writing onto them you need to check what it says on the recorder as some are specific to one type whereas others can write on either type of disc. The DVD+R standard seems to be more popular.

Different formats ....To make more money out of us I think they both do the same thing, they are just different standards, which i don't think are compatable with one another dvd-r is the cheaper and was the first release. mainly used for the original pioneer dvd players.

dvd+r is slightly more expensive as they are generally more stable plus they can be made to hold larger capacities. they were originally designed for the likes of sony, phillips, yamaha, hp and dell. microsoft have recently endorsed this format also.

i would always go for dvd+r for better performance and compatibility.
