what exactly does a dvd recorder do?!?

can u copy dvds? or record programmes onto them?! sorry for being dense!

its ok to be dense your a girl lolololololol u can record off TV just like you used to on blank video tapes you can do both x It records digital video data ! it is a dvd that records... TV programs, stuff from your digital camera etc. You cannot copy commercially produced DVDs (films) as they are copy protected....other that you buy the hardware to circumvent the copy protection...which is illeagal so don't do it. it does what it says on the box. just the same as a vcr but you use a dvd instead. some recorders record straight onto a hard drive,so you dont even need a disc. There's also 'hard disk recorders' which copy onto a hard disk in the machine, not necessarily onto DVD. Some harddisk recorders won't record to DVD. Some more expensive ones copy both onto harddisk and DVD, where you get to choose. You can copy to harddisk to watch later, or copy to DVD to save . i think it works the same as vhs, you can record onto dvd rather than cassette. not sure if you can copy dvd to dvd tho. you can copy dvds if there are two dvd slots or if there is an internal harddirve in the dvd recorder. otherwise you can copy off the t.v like you would a vcr. if you want to record off cable or sky you need to wire the sky/cable box through the dvd recorder. It depends on whether you mean the DVD recorders in PCs or the stand alone models you can connect to your TV set.
