Are there any ways to rip video tape into computer?

Are there any ways to rip video from VCR tapes into a computer?

I've tried dubbing my tape with a DVD-R, but my computer can't read anything from the DVD.

Are there any ways beside buying expensive devices?

I purchased a PCI TV Tuner Capture Card for my PC. I was then able to plug my VCR into the capture card via a coaxial cable. I would open up the Capture cards software and set it up to record from the VHS. I would hit play on the VCR and Record on the software. It would take as long as the movie was to transfer and save to my PCs hard drive. Then I used DVD Burning software like Sonic MyDVD to burn the movie file from my PC onto a Blank DVD.

This is how I was able to save all my kids Disney VHS tapes onto DVD, so that I would not have to rebuy them all over again.

I found the PCI TV Tuner Capture card on Ebay for about $20 if I remember correctly. Just do a search on Ebay for TV TUNER CAPTURE CARD. You will see some listed as PCI for a desktop or if you want a Laptop then look for PCMCIA TV Tuner Capture Capture Card. If you need more info please feel free to send me an email.. If you have a media-center computer(one with a TV cable card), then just hook the "out" from your VCR to your computer, and play and record into your PC using any video editing software. There are plenty of freeware options out there. If you don't have a media-center computer, then just use video/audio jacks, select the source from your software, and you should be able to acomplish the same thing. try this link.
