canon 400 dslr has a viewfinder above; so if i use the EF lens (film lens). does what i see in the viewfinder is what i get? what about cropping?

what you see in the view finder on any SLR is what you get...
the crop factor goes like this
the canon 400d has a 1.6 crop ...so a 50mm lens will look something more similar to a 85mm lens if you were using film
the canon 1d is a "full frame" so there is no crop factor
Nikon used a 1.5 crop on theirs so a 50mm looks like a 75mm through the viewfinder
when you look on any point and shoot there is writing around the lens... 5-17mm usually... then on the box it says 35mm equivalent of a 27-85 or something like that
