Why would you choose a Canon EOS Rebel over a Nikon D50 (or vice versa)?

Just trying to get some "real world" answers as to why a person would choose one low-cost DSLR over another.

I think most DSLR's in the 6-8 Megapixel range offer comparable image quality. I would make your selection based primarily on how the camera feels in your hands when you hold it. If it's uncomfortable to hold, you're not going to want to carry it with you and use it.

As for digital cameras - I like cannon. For film I like Nikon. Take the Canon Rebel - it is a great digital camera. I would definitely choose the Canon EOS Rebel. I recently purchased one because my Nikon D50 was kind of flimsy. It just feels like when you hold the Nikon, it's just gonna break apart even if you don't drop it. The Canon feels much more sturdy. I think it is a way better buy. There are a lot of different lens options for the Canon EOS Rebel as well. Good luck with your new Canon EOS Rebel! Canon [arguably] makes better lenses (its the typical choice of lenses and cameras by pros).

THe Nikon D50 has an excellent refresh rate, which is great if you're going to take huge bursts at say a soccer game. I would take the Canon, I've owned both(a digital Nikon and Canon) and the Canon just preformed much more efficientaly! See posts to similar question posted a little after yours.
