Why would you by a Nikon SB-800 flash? Why not the SB-600 flash?

An advantage of the SB-800 are a built-in white card. With my SB-600 I either use a tape or Velcro a small white card to it.

The SB-800 can be used as a master on-camera flash to control other SB-800s and SB-600 flashes wirelessly. You need this when using wireless flash with any camera other than the D70 and D70s whose built-in flash can do this. The SB-600 cannot be used as a commander flash, only a remote slave. Of course the SB-600 works brilliantly as your main on-camera flash sb600 is good enough to accompany d50. but sb800 has more features such as halving the power to 1/128 of the full power, higher iso range (up to 1600 as compared to 1000 in sb600), faster recycling time, AF assist, ready light, and multiple flash terminal. also the flash comes with quite a few supplied accessories. plus you can get it with quantum battery pack and connecting cable. I compared specs and bought the SB-800. Hey, it's not THAT much more and I didn't want to wake up kicking myself for lack of some serious FIRE POWER at some point in the future.

Read and heed the above answers, though. Serious information. For me, it was just a matter of "Why NOT???" I have "under-purchased" before and always, always regretted it. I end up buying what I really wanted in the first place and selling the other item at a loss. I try not to do that now. You mentioned in an earlier post that you have intentions on going pro, so you can assume that one day you WILL want all of the goodies that the SB-800 offers, even if you don't know what the heck they are today.
