Why the camera have only one eye?

Human beings have two eyes for depth perception. Both eyes are seeing the same scene but at slightly different angles. Objects that are far away have the greatest amount of difference between the left and right image.
Our brain does all the complicated work, analyzing the differences in both images, and combines them into one, three-dimensional image in our heads.
Since cameras record images onto 2 dimensional space, only one image is necessary. Cameras used to capture images in three dimensions, or the ones to shoot imax films, I suspect would need two lenses.
