Many factors are in place for your camera. First depending on your camera, the processer can only go as fast as designed. That also has an effect on how quick it will focus, assuming you in auto mode. The battery level and flash matter also. Then the type of media (memory card) you use has a read/write speed .
The read speed is how fast it will capture your image as the read speed is how fast it will download to your computer. I have 5 different digital cameras and my fastest one (Sony Dsc-F828) is by far the fastest. All will vary a lttle bit. Keep your battery fully charged and go with a high quality memory card. I happen to use San-disk ultra 2 and ultra 3. I also use microdrive which is slower but has 4 gb of space. Overall fastest is the "Sony"memory stick pro. PC world will give you alot of info in their reviews if you happen to need to know. I hope this helps out a bit and happy shooting to you.... low batteries recharging the flash because you bought a cheap one. Normally because you pick the highest resolution 2592 high and also affected by the writing speed of SD card, buy a fast one and use lower resolution like 2592 normal, lastly it's your flash, when taking flash photos in a row, you have to wait a little bit because it takes time to write to the memory card. If you want it to go faster, you need to shell out some bucks well the memory can be used up or the lighting can be bad If you are using the flash then you have to wait until the capacitor charges before the flash will work. All of the above answers are correct. The best way around this problem is to by a digital SLR. I'd suggest you start by looking at the Nikon D50.
