http://www.richardsnotes.org/archives/20... If you have a sigma lens, thats your isue. try another lens (canon, tamron, etc) and see if that clears your problem ERR99 is a default error code in the Rebel so it is hard to pinpoint what exactly is wrong with it.
Seems like the first thing to try is to take your lens off, and clean the gold contacts on the lens and then the camera. While you're doing that, you can try the other fix, which is to take your memory card out, take the battery out, and let it sit for a little bit, then put it all back together. If this didn't work, there is another small (watch-type) battery in the Rebel. You can take out the battery, then this small battery, and let it sit for a while. This should clear the error for sure if it was just a fluke. Be aware though that if you take the small battery out, you will lose all your settings, date and time etc...!
This error code can also be caused by non Canon made lenses which are not 100% compatible with the Rebel. So try another lens if you are using another brand and see if this error still pops up.
My friend had a problem with the mirror which got stuck and also got the ERR99, others had their shutter jam, so it really could be a lot of things... This is most likely a problem with the contacts between the lens and the camera body. You need to clean them thoroughly.
