Why bother to have digital zoom when a computer can do it better after downloading the pics?
Really, why do the manufacturers even bother to have that useless feature. It only ruins the photo!

The only good thing about digital zoom is that you can zoom in on the image AFTER you've taken a picture and see whether or not Auny Gladys blinked her eyes in the family portrait, so you know right away if you need to retake the shot or not. It's a simple option for those that don't want to bother fiddling with a graphics program to resize an image, I suppose. Well, it depends on settings and the lighting of the Area. Yes, if there isn't enough light zoom will be worthless because it's harder for your digital camera to force on the object. Other than what rukh1701 said, it allow the marketing department to have an extra selling point that consumer can "easily" understand. It's the first thing I turn off when I get a camera. Marketing bozos ,no doubt, are the culprits.
