Which macro lens should I buy?
I currently have a Nikon D50 with two lenses:
1) A 28-80mm for standard shots
2) A 70-300mm for zoom photography
At the moment I'm also using the 70-300mm to lamely recreate macro but, obviously, it's very limiting. Therefore, I'm on the lookout for a new macro lens that will be fully compatible with my D50.
At present I'm just looking for what options are available and not worrying too much about price. However, considering that I'm using a D50 you can generally assume I'm in the "amateur" professional league, so won't be want to pay a small fortune for the best macro lens on the planet!

I have the Nikon 60 mm f:2.8 macro lens. I use it on a D70s, D200 and my wife's D50 with no problems at all. It sells for $400.
It will take you all the way to 1:1 reproduction, which is hard core macro.

Here's a sample shot from my D70s with the 60mm lens. I admit that it is not "presentation quality," but it was just a quick shot to communicate with the lab. It is also a full-sized image, so you can enlarge it to see the detail. Your cursor should be a "+" maginifier as you move it across the image. Just click to get the full size and check the detail. If it is not a magnifier, click on the white space to the right of the picture once and then move it back over the image again.
http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/d70s... Tamron makes an excellent 90mm macro which is reasonably priced for its performance. Ebay usually has a few up for bid each week. i use a sigma 105mm macro it gives me a 1:1 ratio for my macro photography. they also have a 150 mm and a 180mm.
