Digital camera...optical zoom... OPTICAL! optical zoom is better. Yea, get as high an optical zoom as you can...the digital zoom will just pixilate...turn to little squares.....what good is that. Like everyone says, optical. Optical is better because unlike digital zoom it does not sacrifice the resolution like everybody says, optical zoom is 'better.'
all a digital zoom does is 'zoom in' by cropping the image down to a smaller segment of the original , throwing away the rest of the image and lowering your resolution. you can do this yourself by cropping in any image editing program. Don't even count the digital zoom. It's only helpful when you are VIEWING your pictures on the camera monitor if you want to check focus or something by zooming in on part of the picture. Optical!
5, 10 or 12 power. Only count on optical zoom. You can always do a digital zoom on a image editing software like Photoshop or XnView.
When shooting I suggest you set the digital zoom off! Right answer..optical! 10 or 12 if you want great shots! Have fun!! And don't use the digital ever! Just like everyone else has said! For the best photo quality, ALWAYS use Optical Zoom...and never, ever bother with Digital Zoom (unless you are desperately wanting to get in just a little bit closer and don't care too much about getting a good quality (printable) photo. Optical zoom is "better". The digital zoom will make the photo look grainy, like a photo in the newspaper. Avoid using the digital zoom.
You should get a camera with an image stabilizer if you buy a camera with a large zoom. It will help keep the photos sharp (focused).
